Instrument Rating (Restricted)

Pre-Requisites

To be eligible for the rating (not to commence the course), you must possess:

• PPL(A)

• 25 hours of total flight time after obtaining PPL(A), which must include:

  • 10 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC)

  • 5 hours of cross-country flying

Privileges

The IR(R) permits the holder to:

• Fly under Instrument Flight Rules within Class D, E, F, and G airspace, exclusively in the United Kingdom

• Conduct instrument approaches to published decision altitudes, considering the minimum requirements for IR(R) holders as outlined in the UK AIP

  
  
  
  

Training Course

The Instrument Rating Restricted IR(R) training course requires a minimum of:

• 15 hours of flight training, including:

  • 10 hours of instrument flight instruction

• One theoretical examination

• A skills test
